Doppelbock is a special strong lager first brewed by friars in Munich for an annual celebration that predates oktoberfest by 200 years! The naming convention for doppelbock is to pick a word ending in “-ator” in order to pay tribute to Paulaner Brewery’s version, the original gangster: Salvator. There are now many variations of this style, but our interpretation is smooth and toasty with a subtle touch of smoke. Lagers already take a long time to make, but to brew a big strong one like this we definitely burn through a couple extra pages of the calendar. At the time of writing this we aren’t exactly sure how many weeks ours will need, but look forward to sipping it when it’s ready… Sünerörlator.
